organs consisting of blind tubes that extend deep into the body in Dipneusti and Polypteriformes. In Polypteridae they are found only on the head and most commonly above the mouth. In the Dipneusti they are found over the whole body except the fins. The crypts are surrounded by a plexus of nerve fibres and are probably sensitive to electric stimuli
